Le Trouvaille Blog Complete Eden Nature Park Travel Guide

As a kid growing up in General Santos City, we used to have a TON of field trips to Davao City. After all, there were so many attractions to go to and so many things to do.

Sadly, because of the pandemic, the kids haven't been as fortunate yet.

But we still wanted to share the joy and the awe of being one with nature and seeing all the animals while they were young.

Eden Nature Park is one of the main destinations for field trips and outdoor excursions. The main reason? It's choc-full of great views, amazing food, and adorable creatures.

We're not gonna lie, we were a little nervous to go back there with the kids since we didn't know what to expect.

Had they maintained the surroundings? Was there enough stuff to do and things to see to keep the kids happy?

Surprisingly enough, Eden Nature Park blew our minds with what it has to offer. Here's everything we did on our Eden Trip.

In a Gist

If you're in a hurry, take a quick look at this infographic to find out what we think about this oasis in Davao City!

Getting There

Getting to Eden Nature Park from General Santos City is easy enough.

We don't yet have a 4x4 vehicle or even one that we would dare venture on treacherous roads without fear of getting stuck, so you shouldn't have a problem navigating your way to this green oasis even with a lowered sedan.

Be warned though, Google Maps will suggest a route taking you through the heart of Davao City and the travel time will double if there's enough traffic (which, let's be honest there always is).

So if you're traveling with little kids, make sure you pack enough snacks to last you an approximate 3-hour car ride.

Private Vehicle

If you're traveling by private vehicle, the journey from General Santos City to Eden Nature Park will take around 3-4 hours.

The distance is approximately 140 km, and the roads are generally forgiving, mostly cemented, and well-maintained.

To get to Eden Nature Park from General Santos City, head north towards Davao City via the National Highway.

The route takes you through scenic countryside and small towns.

Along the way, you will encounter some sharp curves, so be sure to drive cautiously and be mindful of large trucks and buses that frequent the area.

The Google Map link provided will show you the way to Eden Nature Park, which is located at the foothills of Mount Talomo in Barangay Toril, Davao City.

Bus

For those who prefer to travel by bus, there are several bus companies that operate between General Santos City and Davao City.

The most popular and reliable option is the Yellow Bus Line, which offers daily trips from General Santos City to Davao City.

The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours, and the fare ranges from Php 200 to Php 300, depending on the type of bus and the time of day.

Yellow Bus Line has several terminals in General Santos City, but we recommend taking the bus from the Terminal in Bulaong, General Santos City.

From the Ecoland Bus Terminal in Davao City, you can take a taxi or a jeepney to Eden Nature Park, which is approximately 25 km away.

Getting to Eden Nature Park from Davao Airport

For travelers arriving at Davao International Airport, getting to Eden Nature Park is easy. You can take a taxi or a shuttle service from the airport to the park.

The journey takes around 1 hour, and the fare ranges from Php 1,000 to Php 1,500, depending on the type of vehicle and the number of passengers.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi or a jeepney to the Ecoland Bus Terminal and take a bus to Toril. From there, you can take a taxi or a motorcycle to Eden Nature Park, which is located 3 km away.

Getting to Eden Nature Park from General Santos City (or the airport) is easy and convenient, whether you're traveling by private vehicle or by bus.

The roads are generally forgiving, and the journey is filled with scenic views of the countryside.

The Weather

We won't sugarcoat it, we never look up the weather when we head out. We're almost always just traveling on a whim.

The day we decided to go to Eden Nature Park, it was partly cloudy and partly rainy.

With that in mind, here are some things to keep in mind when it comes to the weather at Eden Nature Park.

  • First off, it's worth noting that the weather in the Philippines can be unpredictable, especially during the rainy season. Even if you don't typically check the weather before you travel, it's a good idea to keep an eye on the forecast for Davao City, where Eden Nature Park is located.

  • During our visit to Eden Nature Park, we experienced mostly cloudy and rainy weather. While this can make for some beautiful and moody landscapes, it's important to be aware that the roads can become slippery when it rains. If you plan on walking around and exploring the park, be mindful of moss and mud that may make it a bit challenging to navigate after heavy rainfall.

  • Additionally, Eden Nature Park offers plenty of outdoor activities in an open area, such as zip-lining, hiking, and fishing. If it does rain, these activities may not be available or enjoyable, so it's best to have a backup plan in case the weather doesn't cooperate.

  • On the other hand, Davao City is known for its hot and humid weather, so be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun's rays. Even if it's cloudy, the UV rays can still be strong, and you don't want to end up with a painful sunburn.

It's important to be prepared for all kinds of weather when visiting Eden Nature Park.

Keep an eye on the forecast, bring appropriate clothing and footwear, and have a backup plan in case the weather doesn't cooperate.

With the right mindset and preparation, you can still have a fantastic time exploring everything that this beautiful park has to offer.

Things to Do in Eden Nature Park

In the age of technology, we love bringing our kids to places where they can have an outdoor experience.

There definitely was no shortage of outdoor sights and activities at Eden Nature Garden.

From exciting zip-rides to horseback riding, there's something for everyone at this beautiful park. Here's everything they have to offer.

Entrance Packages

Before anything else, you'll need to choose an entrance package. These packages are consumable. which means you can use them as credits to eat anything you want inside the park!

Fishing Village

Immerse yourself in the laid-back atmosphere of the Fishing Village, where you can try your hand at fishing in their well-stocked ponds.

It's a great opportunity for both kids and adults to experience the joy of catching their own fish. The Fishing Village Package costs Php 450 for adults and Php 300 for children (4-10 years old).

Be warned, waiting times range from 45 minutes to one hour so if you're feeling hungry, you might not be thrilled to wait around.

It's a good idea to order first before you roam around though! There are plenty of things to see and do inside the park to pass the time.

Trouvaille Tip: The Fishing Village is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. Enjoy a relaxing day by the ponds and take advantage of the serene surroundings. Don't worry if you're new to fishing; the staff will provide the necessary equipment and guidance.

Buffet Lunch

If you're looking for instant satisfaction, the Buffet Lunch option at Eden Nature Park might be more your speed.

For Php 850 (adults) or Php 450 (kids), you get to every single thing at their amazing buffet spread.

We didn't opt for this entrance package, but if the food served is anything like the ones cooked in the Fishing Village, you'll need to unbutton your pants.

Plated Snacks

If you're looking for something light, or if you filled up at Loleng's before heading to Eden Nature Park, then you might want to consider their light snacks option.

This package costs Php 350 for adults and Php 300 for kids.

"Free" Attractions

Now that you've decided which entrance package you'd like to go with, let's take a look at the attractions to see and experience that come with your choice.

Don't worry, there's A LOT to do at Eden without spending extra money. Here's what you shouldn't miss:

Bamboo Maze

The Bamboo Maze at Eden Nature Park is one of the most iconic attractions there is to see.

Lose yourself amidst a jaw-dropping formation of green hedges and find your way to the center.

Who knows? You just might find a surprise in the heart of it!

Trouvaille Tip: If you can, bring a drone! The aerial shots from the middle of the maze would look amazing on social media or your scrapbook!

Deer Park

My husband was kind of bummed when we got to see the deer.

He says he vividly remembers there being spotted deers at the park when he was younger.

While that may have been a slight discouragement, the Philippine Deers at the park were amazing to look at.

They even have a deer-feeding park setup. Unfortunately, when we got there the deer seemed to be comfortable lounging around together so we didn't bother them.

Fishing

The main perk of signing up for a Fishing Village package is that you get to fish for your own food!

There are two choices: Tilapia or Hito (catfish).

The staff provides bait and a fishing rod for you too.

In our experience, it was very easy to catch our own fish. It was a fun experience for the kids (and dad) too!

Trouvaille Tip: Don't get caught up catching as many fish as you want. They'll weigh each and every fish you catch and you'll have to pay for it. But they can cook it for you though!

Indiana Jones

A true, iconic experience, the free Indiana Jones playground ride is a mini-zipline made for kids!

All you need to do is sit on the disc, hold on tight, and zoom through a short distance like a real treasure hunter!

Birdwalk

If you're a fan of birds and amazing sights, you'll love seeing peacocks roaming around the park.

Our favorite is the marvelous white peacock that loves preening and walking around alongside visitors!

Trouvaille Tip: Don't bother the birds! They're friendly, but you don't want to be on the receiving end of a particularly peeved off bird.

Hiking Trail

For anyone who wants to take a serene hike through ancient trees, the Eden Nature Park Hiking Trail is an excellent activity in and of itself.

The locals say the trail leads to a marvelous waterfall.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to check it out since we had kids with us and the road was extremely slippery!

Amphitheater

The Amphitheater is an architectural wonder.

Striking columns blanketed in lush greenery, you'll feel like you've been transported to Ancient Greece!

Flower Garden

Eden Nature Park is well-known for its lush greenery and magical trees.

But did you know that it also has a flower garden that can take your breath away?

Stop by to smell the flowers and you'll be surprised to see some of the funkiest flowers you'll ever see.

Lola's Garden

If the Flower Garden wasn't enough, you should also stop by Lola's Garden!

This adorable garden is laden with the owner's grandmother's favorite flowers. Hence, the name.

Hydroponics

To say that the food at Eden Nature Park tastes fresh is an understatement.

And one of the biggest reasons for that is that they grow a lot of their own veggies.

The hydroponics center gives you a glimpse of how these vegetables are grown in-house.

Playground

A true kid-pleaser, the sprawling playground is filled with classic attractions for kids and is maintained quite well.

It's a great stop if your kids are still quite hyper and you need a bit of a breather.

Tinubdan

Oh my goodness, have you heard of Tinubdan? It's an absolute gem!

Sure, there are street dances, arts, and festivals, but what sets it apart is that it offers a unique glimpse into the lives of our Mindanaon ancestors.

Trust me, it's an experience that will truly make you appreciate the rich cultural heritage that we have.

Butterfly Garden

Say hello to gentle, fluttering wings and artwork in motion.

The butterfly garden features different butterfly species freely roaming around for you to touch and take photos with.

"Paid" Activities

If you really want to make the most out of your trip to Eden Nature Park, there are several activities you need to check off your list.

Here's everything you don't want to miss:

Skywheel

Soar through the lush greenery and enjoy breathtaking views as you zip across the park in a giant hamster wheel.

It's an excellent activity for adrenaline junkies who love fast-paced zip-rides.

The best part? It only costs Php 250 per person to ride.

Trouvaille Tip: Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes for your skywheel adventure. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the exhilarating moments!

Skyrider

For an unforgettable experience, hop on the Skyrider and glide through the treetops suspended from a cable.

It's an exhilarating ride that provides a unique perspective of the park's natural beauty.

The cost for this activity is Php 200 per person.

Trouvaille Tip: Prepare yourself for a thrilling ride and enjoy the stunning panoramic views below. Don't forget to secure any loose items and follow the safety instructions provided by the park staff.

Skycycle

Pedal your way through the air on the Skycycle, a bicycle suspended from a cable.

This activity combines adventure and a touch of exercise as you navigate your way above the ground.

The cost for the Skycycle is Php 250 per person.

Trouvaille Tip: Maintaining a steady pace while pedaling and keeping your balance is essential. Enjoy the unique experience of biking in the sky and take in the picturesque surroundings.

Sky Swing

Brace yourself for an adrenaline-pumping ride on the Sky Swing, a giant swing that swings you high above the park.

Feel the rush as you soar through the air, experiencing the thrill of freefall.

The cost for the Sky Swing is Php 300 per person or Php for a tandem ride.

Trouvaille Tip: If you're a thrill-seeker, the Sky Swing is a must-try activity. Embrace the excitement and let go of your fears as you swing high above the park. Hold on tight and enjoy the ride!

Horseback Riding

Explore the park's scenic trails on horseback and enjoy a leisurely ride amidst nature's beauty.

This activity is perfect for both beginners and experienced riders.

The cost for horseback riding is Php 200 for a 30-minute ride.

Trouvaille Tip: No prior experience is necessary for horseback riding. The park provides trained guides who will assist you throughout the activity. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes for a pleasant riding experience.

Swimming Pool

If you're feeling the heat, and would like to go for a dip, make sure you stop by their swimming pool.

There's something about taking a dip in crisp, clear water surrounded by ancient trees and the sounds of nature that just hit the reset button on anyone's mind.

Be warned, this does not come with your entrance package and will cost Php 200 per person to enjoy.

Trouvaille Tip: Bring appropriate swimming attire. The staff like to keep the pool clean and sanitary for everyone, so avoid wearing dark-colored cotton clothes or denim to the pool.

Food

One of the key highlights of our trip to Eden Nature Park was the culinary experience at the Fishing Village.

We were excited to sample the fresh seafood and local delicacies served in this charming setting. Here's a mouthwatering list of the food we enjoyed:

  • Ensaladang Talong: We started our culinary journey with Ensaladang Talong, a delightful eggplant salad. It was a perfect combination of flavors with fresh onions, tomatoes, and a delicious salted egg. The tangy and savory dressing elevated the dish to another level.

  • Paksiw na Tilapia: The best part of our dining experience was catching our own fish at the Fishing Village. We selected a plump tilapia and had it cooked in the classic Filipino style of paksiw, a vinegar-based stew. The fish was tender, and the flavors were tangy and savory, making it a true taste of the region.

  • Deep-Fried Tilapia: We couldn't resist trying another preparation of the tilapia we caught. This time, it was deep-fried to perfection. The crispy exterior gave way to succulent and flaky meat. It was a satisfying and flavorful dish showcasing the fish's freshness.

  • Sinigang na Baboy: A comforting and hearty soup, Sinigang na Baboy featured tender pork in a sour broth with an assortment of vegetables. The balance of sourness was just right, and the meat was incredibly tender. It was a delightful combination of flavors that left us craving more.

  • Grilled Porkchop: The grilled porkchop at the Fishing Village was a crowd-pleaser. The meat was tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The portion size was generous and served in convenient bite-sized pieces, making it easy to enjoy.

  • Kinilaw: Kinilaw is a Filipino ceviche-style dish made with raw fish marinated in vinegar and citrus juices. The freshness and tanginess of the kinilaw at the Fishing Village blew us away. The fish was firm, and the flavors were vibrant and refreshing.

We ordered six servings of rice to complement our meal, which paired perfectly with the dishes.

The portions were quite generous, and we were stuffed and satisfied with the delicious flavors.

It's important to note that we didn't get to try the buffet lunch or plated snacks during our visit.

Still, based on our experience in the Fishing Village, we can confidently say that the culinary offerings at Eden Nature Park are a treat for the taste buds.
